SAINSBURY’S HALLOWEEN

who

Sainsbury’s stands as one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains, capturing a significant share of the market with its diverse range of offerings. Whether it’s everyday groceries or seasonal delights, Sainsbury’s has been a trusted destination for shoppers across the country.

the goal

With Halloween on the horizon, Sainsbury’s aimed to not only celebrate the spooky season but also drive awareness of their sustainability efforts. They sought to showcase how their Halloween products were more sustainable, particularly in terms of reducing food waste and plastic usage. It was crucial to convey the message that Sainsbury’s was offering edible carving vegetables, unlike some competitors who faced criticism for selling inedible decorative pumpkins and gourds. Additionally, Sainsbury’s wanted to highlight changes made to their Halloween range to minimize plastic usage.

the mission

As the motion designer for Sainsbury’s Halloween marketing campaign, my mission was twofold: to create engaging video content that communicated Sainsbury’s sustainability initiatives and to promote their Halloween range in a lighthearted and captivating manner. The goal was to produce a playful video that would resonate with viewers on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, effectively delivering the message of sustainability while showcasing the products on offer.

the solution

I began by prepping assets in Illustrator, ensuring that the visuals were aligned with Sainsbury’s brand identity and messaging. Using Adobe After Effects, I brought these assets to life through animation, incorporating photography cutouts to create a visually engaging experience. The video concept catered to Sainsbury’s “Plan for better missions” campaign, emphasizing their commitment to reducing food waste and plastic usage during Halloween. The narrative was carefully crafted to engage viewers, illustrate the product offerings, showcase the impact of Sainsbury’s initiatives through stats and figures, and maintain a lighthearted tone throughout.

The Results

The video garnered significant attention and engagement on both Instagram and Facebook, effectively conveying Sainsbury’s sustainability message while promoting their Halloween range. Viewers were drawn in by the playful animation and informative content, leading to increased awareness of Sainsbury’s efforts to combat food waste and reduce plastic usage. Overall, the campaign succeeded in driving home the message of sustainability in a fun and memorable way, reinforcing Sainsbury’s position as a responsible and innovative supermarket chain.
